Templates
Free invoice layouts you can copy, built for weekly and monthly contract work.
Pick the layout that matches how you work
If you're paid weekly by an agency or contractor, a weekly timesheet invoice with one row per day (Monday to Sunday) makes it easy for them to check your hours against their timesheet. If you bill a regular client once a month, a monthly invoice with each worked day listed, or a summary of days and rate, keeps the paperwork to one document. What a good template shows
Your details and the client's details, a unique invoice number, the invoice and due dates, the period covered, a line for each day or type of time with hours and rate, the total, and your bank details. Leave out anything you don't need. A clean invoice gets checked and paid faster.
Or let BillMyWeek fill it in
BillMyWeek is free while in beta. It fills a week (Monday to Sunday) or a calendar month for you, works out your day rate, overtime and weekend lines, numbers each invoice automatically, and gives you an A4 PDF to send. It doesn't calculate VAT or CIS deductions.
Questions
Should I use a weekly or monthly invoice?
Use whatever your client pays on. Agencies usually pay weekly, so a weekly timesheet invoice fits. Regular direct clients are often happy with monthly.
Is a template enough for HMRC?
Yes, as long as the invoice includes the required details, such as a unique number, dates, both parties and the amounts, and you keep a copy.
Does BillMyWeek do VAT invoices?
No. BillMyWeek doesn't calculate VAT or CIS deductions, so it suits contractors who aren't VAT-registered.
